We stumbled across a Great Horned Owl nest tucked away in the forest, and before long, we began noticing the young owlets perched in different trees throughout the area.
They were surprisingly spread out, each sitting quietly among the branches. Then we heard the adult owl call.
Almost immediately, the forest came alive.
The young owls began hopping and flying from tree to tree, making their way toward the adult. One after another, they gathered together, and we quickly realized why—the adult had returned with a rabbit for feeding time.
Watching the owlets respond to the parent's call and come together was incredible. One moment they were scattered throughout the forest, and the next they were side by side, wide-eyed and waiting for their meal.
This photograph captured that brief moment when an adult Great Horned Owl and one of the young owlets were together with the rabbit, giving us an unforgettable glimpse into the everyday life of this owl family.
Sometimes the most memorable wildlife encounters are the ones you never planned on finding.
